Seldy, a point of sale that never stops and uncovered 650 USD in losses.

Seldy is a software ecosystem born for Maribeauty, a cosmetics shop in Bolivia: a till that works offline, stock control and a cloud dashboard to see the business from anywhere. Now it’s getting ready for more shops.

THE PROBLEM

Unreliable internet, stock that was hard to track and losses nobody could see.

THE SOLUTION

An ecosystem: a till that works offline and prints receipts, plus a cloud dashboard for stock and analytics.

THE RESULT

In six weeks it uncovered losses and helped fix them: about 650 USD saved.

One shop, three people and an unreliable connection

Maribeauty is run by its owner, Mariela, and two employees. Keeping track of sales and stock was hard: it wasn’t easy to know what came in, what went out and what was missing.

The internet connection isn’t reliable, so a cloud-only tool was not an option: if the network goes down, the shop has to keep selling.

Not a program, an ecosystem

Two pieces that work together: the till, in the shop, and the dashboard, in the cloud. Each does its own job and they sync on their own.

From one shop to a product

Seldy was built to solve Maribeauty’s problems, but they aren’t unique to a cosmetics shop: an unreliable connection, stock that’s hard to track and several people selling on the same till are common to many small businesses.

That’s why I’m preparing it for more shops, with the same starting point: easy to use, not dependent on the internet, and with support from someone who answers. Maribeauty is the first shop, and everything learned there is already built in.

What it does, day to day

Screenshots use demo data to protect the shop’s information.

Dialog to confirm a sale with the salesperson and payment method

Checkout in seconds

Pick the products, apply a discount if needed and take payment in cash, by card or by QR. The receipt prints on the thermal printer.

Till notifications for products out of stock or running low

Stock always up to date

Every sale is deducted from inventory and the till warns you about what’s running low or out of stock.

Dialog to import products from an Excel file

The catalogue, from Excel

Products are imported and exported with an Excel sheet: no need to add them one by one.

Keypad to switch user by entering a PIN

A user for each person

The owner and each employee log in with their own PIN, so every sale is recorded under whoever made it.

Till analytics with total sales, average ticket and best-selling products

What sells and what doesn’t

Sales by period, by payment method and by salesperson, plus the best-selling products. All exportable.

Cloud dashboard with sales for today, this week and this month

The business, from anywhere

The cloud dashboard shows today’s, this week’s and this month’s sales without being in the shop.

Shop stock in the cloud dashboard, with products out of stock or running low

Stock, remotely

The dashboard shows what’s missing or about to run out, synced with the till.

History of till closings in the cloud dashboard

Till closings, at a glance

Every day’s opening and closing is logged with its sales and total.

650 USD
in losses uncovered and fixed

With every sale and every stock movement recorded in detail, the numbers stopped adding up. Within six weeks the owner found where money was being lost and fixed it.

“Since we started using the system Santiago built, we’ve been able to manage our stock in a much more organised and efficient way, bringing shortages down to zero and saving hundreds of dollars.

Today we know what to restock, which products move slowly and where we’re missing opportunities. On top of that, our sales receipts are clear, professional and tailored to our business.

A tool that really helped us improve and organise how we run things. 100% recommended!”

— Mariela, owner of Maribeauty (translated from Spanish)
